Sunday, October 15, 2017, Fr. Paul Mau Nguyen was installed as pastor
of St. Mary’s Parish, Churchbridge, Saskatchewan in the presence of a large congregation of parishioners and guests.
Monsignor Ken Miller, representative for Archbishop Donald Bolen of the Archdiocese of Regina officiated at the ceremony.
In his homily, Msgr. Ken shared with the congregation by quoting from St. Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians: “I beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called-with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing well with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace.” Saint Paul later says that the gifts Christ gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some PASTORS and teachers to equip the saints for the work of ministry for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ.
Msgr. Ken said this is a powerful mission statement for the church for the priest as pastor and for the faithful as parishioners working together for the building up of the body of Christ. Then he continued: “This speaks to the enthusiasm of Father Mau – his first parish as a Pastor, his youthfulness, and his deep desire to do his best.”
This event was very special as it was the very first time a priest has been installed as pastor of St. Mary’s. The ceremony was rich in rituals as Monsignor Ken Miller processed Fr. Mau around the church to several sacred sites pertinent to our lives as Christians.
At the Baptismal Font, Confessional, in front of the Holy Oils, the Ambo, Altar and the Presidential Chair, Monsignor Ken Miller invited Fr. Mau to renew his commitment to his priestly ministry and also invited parishioners to support Fr. Mau in his ministry.
Fr. Mau then placed his hand on the Bible and led the congregation in the Profession of Faith, then recited and Oath of Fidelity and signed a Decree of Possession.
The congregation responded with a warm welcome.
Following the mass everyone gathered in the auditorium for lunch and fellowship to celebrate and welcome Fr. Mau as our Pastor at St. Mary’s Parish.
St. Mary’s Youth group had its first gathering on Friday, October 13 in the auditorium of St. Mary’s church, Churchbridge. Fourteen youth were in attendance and shared their ideas on what activities they would like to see the youth group provide. They generated over 30 ideas, which included indoor activities and outdoor activities. The youth then enjoyed sharing pizza (Thanks to the generosity of Fr. Mau) and conversation.
On Friday, October 20 the group grew to Twenty-six youth who enjoyed a great game of Man Tracker outside in the dark, using their flashlights to capture each other.
Before playing the games, Fr. Mau invited them to pray for their parents, grandparents, and he blessed them to play well.
The evening closed with hot chocolate and sweets and a plan to meet again on Friday, Nov. 3 to enjoy a game of Home Free and board games.
Please join us to pray and play and have fun!
